WHAT THE PRESS SAY
Renowned in the west for his novel 'Woman In The Dunes' and for the film of the same name, Kobo Abe was also a celebrated playright and Director. Nominated for the Nobel Prize for Literature several times, Kobo Abe set up his own theatre Studio in Tokyo where he staged his mesmerising, dark and twisted examinations of the individual in modern society.
Often compared to Kafka and Beckett, Kobo Abe's plays are often delightfully funny whilst maintaining a dark undercurrent.
Spilt Milk will be running workshops using Kobo Abe's methods in the lead up to a full production.
NEW WRITING - RACHEL BARNETT
Based on the popular 'Choose Your Own Adventure' storybooks, Spilt Milk Theatre have been working on a collaboration with the fantastic Rachel Barnett for an immersive piece of interactive theatre.
Placing the audience at the heart of the story, every important decision is dictated by you.
Spilt Milk favourite Rachel Barnett whose pieces 'For A Button' and 'Finding The Geocache' were big hits at our new writing productions, will be writing this highly complex, tongue-in-cheek tribute to the hugely succesful literary phenomenon.
More news coming soon.
JOHN ARDEN - SERJEANT MUSGRAVE'S DANCE
Considered one of Britain's finest dramatists, John Arden achieved notable success with 'Serjeant Musgrave's Dance' which is still widely thought to be his best work.
Musgrave follows four soldiers decending on a northern mining town in the grips of an industrial strike. Cut off from the outside by a snowstorm, the realities of war and the effect it has on these men leads to a violent climax. Reflecting the morality of war and the de-humanising effect it has on everyone it touches, Musgrave still has enormous power and a deep resonance with the present.
Spilt Milk will be staging readings of this play prior to a full production.
